Cleaning
Dr. Gor and his staff believe a good foundation is the key to optimal oral health, therefore, our periodontal care is of utmost priority. We customize cleanings to properly care for your specific periodontal (gums & bone) needs.
Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings
To treat a cavity Dr. Gor will remove the decayed portion of the tooth then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material once lived.
There are several advantages to this type of filling.
Aesthetics the shade/color of the composites can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth; is particularly well suited for use in front teeth or visible parts of teeth.
Bonding to tooth structure composite fillings actually chemically bond to tooth structure, providing further support to the tooth.
Versatility in uses in addition to use as a filling material for decay, composite fillings can also be used to repair chipped, broken or worn teeth.
Tooth-sparing preparation sometimes less tooth structure needs to be removed with composite fillings when removing decay and preparing for the filling.
Inlays and Onlays
More conservative than a crown, inlays and onlays are two methods of restoring normal tooth structure after decay or other damage. Inlays and onlays are known as indirect fillings because unlike a standard filling that is done in a dentist's office, both are made in a laboratory and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit to the dentist. And unlike standard fillings, inlays and onlays do not weaken the tooth structure, but actually strengthens it. After the procedure the tooth can bear up to 50 to 75% more chewing force. An inlay is done when the tooth structure replaced is within the cusp tips of the tooth. If the damage is more extensive and the new structure covers the entire chewing surface including one or more tooth cusps, the procedure is called an onlay.
Crowns
Crowns are used to replace tooth structure due to fractures, trauma, and decayed teeth. Dr. Gor will also place crowns on teeth that have been weakened by root canal treatment and old fillings. He will match the color of crowns to the surrounding teeth.
Root Canals
Root canals are done when the nerve of the tooth is affected by decay or trauma. Dr. Gor uses the new rotary system which makes root canals painless and extremely comfortable for his patients. Root canals are followed with a buildup and a crown to protect the tooth for the long term.
Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing
At Olympic Dental we believe in the importance of maintaining healthy gums by detecting and treating mild to early cases of gum disease at the onset. Mild to early gum disease is treated through a non-surgical procedure which includes scaling and root planing, irrigation, and possible placement of antibiotics. This can be done in our office. Any advanced cases of gum disease are referred to our highly qualified periodontist associates.
