Teeth Bleaching and Whitening
Just about everyone wishes they had whiter teeth. Fortunately, there is an easy, painless way to make your teeth whiter with bleaching a dental technique that can give you a dazzling, bright smile!
Although teeth seem very hard, the enamel has microscopic pores that discolor over time as we age, from smoking, and from staining substances that we eat and drink. In some cases, enamel discoloration occurs during early tooth formation from antibiotic and fluoride consumption. Bleaching simply removes stains from the enamel of your teeth.
Almost anyone can benefit from teeth whitening, and bleaching is ideal for patients who have healthy teeth and would like to have a brighter, more attractive smile. Bleaching will not change the shade of existing bonding, veneers or crowns.
Most over-the-counter products such as ‘whitening’ toothpastes and gels are ineffective because they contain a low percentage of carbamide peroxide, and are not used in a concentrated form directly on the teeth.
Bonding
Dental bonding on the front teeth is an excellent method for repairing minor imperfections such as chips and stains. It can also be used to fill gaps between the teeth. Although no cosmetic dentistry procedure can take the place of good oral and periodontal hygiene, dental bonding can brighten your smile quickly and easily.
Dr. Gor will prepare your tooth for treatment by roughening and shaping or contouring the surface. Next he will apply a conditioning solution and bonding agent that together act as a strong adhesive or glue, to ensure that the composite will adhere. Next he will apply the putty-like tooth colored composite material, sculpting it to correct the problem areas. Several layers of the composite material may be necessary in order to achieve the best results. To cure and harden the material, a high-intensity light is used. Finally, he will smooth and polish your tooth to give it an even, natural color.
Veneers
Made from porcelain by the laboratory, veneers are adhered to the conservatively prepared tooth, providing lasting changes to the appearance of the tooth by altering the color, shape, or position of the tooth. These are the gold standard of Cosmetic Dentistry and are conservative alternatives to crowns. Porcelain veneers, applied over your natural teeth, can easily brighten your smile and your self-esteem. The thin shell of porcelain fits over damaged, discolored, or misshaped teeth. Porcelain is an extremely durable material with a color, translucence and texture that is similar to tooth enamel. It resists staining while maintaining a natural appearance. Veneers can effectively close gaps between teeth, lengthen and reshape teeth, and cover stains and discolorations.
Porcelain veneers usually require at least two appointments to be completed. During the first appointment, your teeth will be roughened and shaped to remove part of the outer tooth enamel. This provides a better surface for bonding and allows room for the placement of the thin porcelain shell. After shaping, Dr. Gor will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create veneers that fit your mouth precisely.
At your next appointment, DR. Gor will test your veneers to make sure that they fit properly and that they are the correct size and color. At this time, you and he will work together to make sure that you are satisfied with the result. If needed, more shaping or trimming of the veneers can be done before the final fitting.
Before your veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth with a composite resin cement, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned, since clean teeth and healthy gums are necessary in order for bonding to be successful. Once your veneers are permanently placed, they will feel like a natural part of your teeth, and you can use them just as you would your regular teeth.
Dental Implants Alternative to Crowns & Dentures
Dental implants are the replacement of a missing tooth or teeth. Implants have become a very popular alternative to replace missing teeth with several advantages over bridges. An implant can be placed in the bone. A crown is fabricated to fit the implant and function as a permanent tooth.
